Recognize that oxidase-positive, gram-negative rods on highly alkaline media causing water-born gastroenteritis is Vibrio cholerae. V. cholerae is highly sensitive to gastric acidity. Omeprazole decreaeses gastric acidity , thereby increasing susceptibility to infection. =======> V. cholerae is very sensitive to gastric acidity, so any condition that increases gastric pH will lower minumum infective dose of V. cholerae (by many orders of magnitude)
