glycerol metabolism only occurs in the liver; glycerol kinase thus is specific to the liver; or all the other enzymes can be found in other tissues =======> glycerol is used for triacylglycerol syntehsis, gluconeogenesis, and as an intermediate in glycolysis in the liver
